Get Involved with the Vandalia Hokies!

If you are an alumnus/alumna that loves Virginia Tech and would like to keep the Hokie spirit alive in the Charleston, Huntington, and Southern West Virginia areas we hope that you will consider getting involved. The below positions are currently open.

Social Media Chair

The Social Media Chair will serve as the chapter’s lead coordinator for the chapter’s social media platforms, website, and email communication. They will be responsible for sharing university and chapter events, important updates, and maintaining a current online presence on behalf of the chapter.

Tasks & Duties:

Regularly create posts and communicate upcoming events, activities, and needs as planned by the chapter on Alumni Spaces, Facebook, email, etc.

Share Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association news, updates, and events

Maintain chapter email account and local email list

Share post-event photos and results on digital platforms

Actively engage alumni through social media platforms

Demonstrate Hokie Hospitality with all audiences engaging with the chapter’s online platforms.

Encourage support of Virginia Tech through time, talent and treasure on digital platforms.

Follow university guidelines and policies in regards to the use and dissemination of the Virginia Tech logos, brand, and other licensed or trademarked materials.

Commit to training on Alumni Spaces to maintain and regularly update the chapter website (duties will be divided amongst the chapter leadership team based on needs)

Determine additional social media outlets and usage based on chapter needs

Identify, train, and mentor a volunteer replacement for this position if/when needed.

Perform other duties with the chapter as needed

Time Commitment:

Dependent on chapter need; Approximately 5 hours per month.

Young Alumni Chair

The Young Alumni Chair will serve to support the chapter leadership in the engagement and recruitment of Young Alumni in the local area to participate and volunteer in upcoming events and activities. Young Alumni are defined as those that have graduated from Virginia Tech within the last 10 years and typically include the 19 – 30 age demographic, with exceptions.

Tasks & Duties:

Work with the chapter leadership team to determine ideas, events, activities, or communication that would entice Young Alumni participation

Execute events or activities meant to engage the Young Alumni audience (i.e. professional networking, happy hours, excursions, etc.)

Provide assistance and perspective on all upcoming chapter events from a Young Alumnus/Alumna point of view

Demonstrate Hokie Hospitality in all interactions with all alumni

Work with the chapter leadership team to expand the Young Alumni network in the local area

Recruit Young Alumni volunteers and support

Encourage support of Virginia Tech through time, talent, and treasure

Identify, train, and mentor a volunteer replacement for this position if/when needed

Perform other duties with the chapter as needed

Time Commitment:

Dependent on chapter need; Approximately 5 hours a month.

Student Send-off Chair

The Student Send-off Chair is the main point of contact and responsible for the planning and execution of the Student Send-off event to be held once a fiscal year by the chapter. A Student Send-off event is a signature alumni chapter program event that welcomes new students from the local area that will be attending Virginia Tech in the upcoming year. These events are typically held in June or the first two weeks of August and are a great way to connect alumni with current students and their families.

Tasks & Duties:

Work with chapter leadership to determine a date, venue, format, volunteer needs, etc. for the Student Send-off

Attend or review the Student Send-off Chapter Chat

Regularly update the Virginia Tech Alumni Association liaison and the chapter leadership team on the status of the event

Comply with deadlines, guidelines, and policies as outlined by the Virginia Tech Alumni Associations

Coordinate with the Virginia Tech Alumni Association liaison on marketing communication, receipt of giveaways, and other needs

Work with the chapter’s Social Media Chair and Secretary to share the event and recruit volunteers on digital platforms

Recruit and manage volunteers for this specific event

Serve as the main point of contact and manager the day of the event

Share post-event photos, registration, and results with chapter leadership, Virginia Tech Alumni Association liaison, and on digital platforms appropriately

Time Commitment:

Dependent on chapter needs; Approximately 2-4 hours a month January – August.
